About the event
This is an intermediate class focused on the process of trimming and completing wheel thrown work. We will focus on the different types of tools to accomplish functional and stylistic trimming strategies. Students will leave with a deeper understanding of the process of trimming and finishing pieces on the wheel.
Students will explore the ideal clay consistencies and drying methods, followed by a demonstration on using various trimming tools, centering techniques, and body mechanics to ensure effective and safe trimming. This class will discuss assessing thickness and planning before starting to trim. Additionally, we will cover finishing techniques like adding handles, sgraffito, or carving for decoration or functionality.
Students should bring at least three pieces ready for trimming and any personal tools, although studio tools will be reviewed.
